14: "Awkward Conversations" Week
Update: 2020-01-05
Description
Welcome to episode 14! It covers the week of January 6 - 10, 2020. Can you believe it’s 2020!?
Each week on this podcast, we’ll share the information that's within the newsletter put out by EarBuds Podcast Collective. EBPC is a listening movement. We send a weekly email with a theme and 5 podcast episodes on that theme, and each week is curated by a different person. Anyone can curate a list -- just reach out!
We partner with Inside Podcasting to bring you the week’s top podcast news stories. Written by Skye Pillsbury, Inside Podcasting is a thrice weekly email newsletter that covers the podcast world.
This week's theme comes to us from Courtney Kocak (co-host of the Private Parts Unknown podcast) and is called *Awkward Conversations.* Courtney chose 5 podcast episodes that fit within that theme. Listen in to learn about why Courtney chose this theme, the episodes, and more.
Podcasts explored this week:
MONDAY: This is Uncomfortable - When Money Makes it Weird - 31 minutes
TUESDAY: The Clearing - Hunting Season - 52 minutes
WEDNESDAY: This American Life - If you Don't have Anything Nice to Say, SAY IT IN ALL CAPS - 58 minutes
THURSDAY: Private Parts Unknown - Men Have Abortions Too, Part II - 54 minutes
FRIDAY: Heavyweight - The Marshes - 56 minutes
In this episode, we make mention of some of the podcasts that were listed on Inside Podcasting’s best kept secrets of podcasting in 2019 issue. Here are the podcasts:
Craig and George Sybert from Music Musing recommend The History Cache. Relatively unheard of events in history in detail and with a flair. They are intrigued by each episode and remark that the hosts makes it educational AND fun.
Dan Delgado from the industry podcast recommends the show BLEEPED as a great indie that may be podcasting's best-kept secret. It's a show about censorship that is done in a high-quality storytelling style.
Holly Flanagan from the podcast Shelley has opinions recommends Spooky Spouses as the best-kept secret of 2019. Two married folks take joy in talking about Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff—the warmth and love they share makes this creepy podcast stand out head and shoulders above any other in their category.
Joshua Dudley recommends Sis and Tell! It’s a podcast about two funny sisters who get on the phone and talk about a whole lotta nothing usually involving family stories and being Jewish. One of them is a comedian, the other is a television host.
Lauren Passell from Podcast the Newsletter recommends Rashomon. "Rashomon" means that people can experience the same thing in many different ways. On the show, Hillary talks to family members about a memory or event that they share.
